Meet History

Jerry Downey was the longtime cross country/track & field coach at St. Augustine HS and the founder of the original event in 1989. It is our hope to continue the tradition of leadership and excellence in our sport that Coach Downey exemplified throughout his career. This meet features college and high school sections throughout the day. The high school meet is primarily reserved for schools with 1800 or fewer students. Invitations are made

to other high schools to help create a competitive field. The college races are open to 2-year and 4-year institutions as well as unattached individuals. The course is primarily grass with some sections of dirt and sidewalk. The loops course features an undulating terrain that makes for a fair and fun cross country course. The course also features sections of the CIF San Diego Section and national championship course.
